Successful Final Defence of the Margistar Project

8. 10. 2026

On 24 September 2026, the final defence of the Inter COST LUC23169 project "Science-Based Background Data for the Revitalisation of Marginalised Mountain Areas in the Czech Republic" took place successfully, receiving an excellent grade.

The project, carried out by our team in collaboration with the Department of Forest Ecology at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague and the Department of Geoinformatics at Palacký University Olomouc, was focused on developing data resources for assessing the state of the landscape and proposing possible adaptation measures in marginalised mountain areas of the Czech Republic.

One of the main outputs of the project is an interactive map application "Assessment of Environmental Burden and Ecological Stability Status", which provides access to detailed spatially localised data on land susceptibility to degradation using the ESAI (Environmentally Sensitive Area Indicator) method for three model areas: the Novohradské hory Mountains, the central and eastern part of the Krušné hory Mountains, and the Jizerské hory Mountains.

The application makes it possible to identify the overall degree of landscape susceptibility to degradation at the level of individual habitats, the extent to which selected ecosystem functions are fulfilled, and their resilience to climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressure. The outputs provide practically applicable information primarily for central and local government authorities, nature conservation bodies, larger farmers, foresters, non-governmental organisations, and the professional public.

More information and access to the project outputs can be found on the → Margistar project page.
